I am writing in regards to my son,who is incarcerated at the Elkton Federal Institution in Lisbon, Ohio. My Son has a compromised ammune system. He had ITP – Immune Thrombocytopenia, a rare autoimmune disease and he had to have his spleen removed to control this disease. The conditions at the prison are a death sentence for those who are compromised. He has 155 inmates in his area so there is no social distancing. They were all given one 3oz. bar of soap a week. They just put soap in the bathrooms on May 1, 2020. There was no administrative staff for two weeks and no regular guard for their area. Elkton prison is highly understaffed even before the Pandemic. Because of the understaffing they are locked in their rooms all day with no fresh air except when the go out to get their meals and go back to their cubicle. My son told me there is black mold on the ceilings, he is on top bunk. Prolonged exposure, black mold can be more dangerous. The most common black mold spores are associated with a respiratory response. Most common systems are Chronic coughing and sneezing, irritated eyes nose & throat also rashes, chronic fatigue and headaches. Symptomatic of black mold poisoning. My son has been incarcerated for 1yr and 7 months living in these conditions. Why has there been no compassionate release during this pandemic for those who are most compromised & now there is the black mold I have to worry about. He is a wonderful Son, Husband, Father and Grandfather. I don’t want my son to die in prison. You would have to personally know him to know he is not what he is being defined as, he is not a Sex Offender but a wonderful man who got mixed up with the wrong people on the internet for posting images of children, he would never hurt a child. Why is our government not shutting down these sick websites to protect us. Worried, anxious and stressed.
