Rupert, I went to Hong Kong last November with my wife. We were detained at customs for about an hour or so. They took us into a room and asked a lot of questions. Where were we staying, how long, what hotel, what were we going to be doing on our trip, how much money did we have, what was my job in the U.S., how much did I make, etc. I’ve made many trips there and always was let in although the last 2 times we were detained and questioned. Be sure and have a hotel reservation and proof of income and proof of job if you work. I just took a pay check stub for proof. I loved Hong Kong. There was a lot for my wife and I to do. We stayed in the Kowloon area and had no problems. Good luck!
