If you do, then the purpose of this piece is essential. The public doesn’t care if the registry is a lifetime of punishment because people who are totally bad, as those on the registry are, deserve that. People like Jefferson remind us that is not so, that we all have both good and bad qualities, and that committing a crime doesn’t erase all the good one has done or will ever do.
