Amanda is a passionate advocate for criminal justice reform and the rights of registered citizens, drawing from her extensive personal experiences since her release from incarceration in 2003. Throughout her nearly 18 years in prison, she dedicated herself to personal growth and community service, becoming a hospice volunteer, participating in the “Oakdale Community Choir,” completing two apprenticeships, and ultimately returning to school. In May 2023, Amanda proudly earned her associate degree from Iowa Central Community College.
As an ambassador for the Iowa Consortium for Higher Education in Prison (I.C.H.E.P), she gained essential advocacy skills that would shape her future endeavors. In January 2024, Amanda joined Iowans Unafraid, a NARSOL state affiliate, and was elected executive director in September 2024. Under her leadership, Iowans Unafraid has made significant strides, launching support groups for families and individuals on the registry, expanding its board, and enhancing community outreach efforts.
Beyond her impactful work with Iowans Unafraid, Amanda is actively engaged in her local LGBTQ+ community and collaborates with several other organizations, including QC Interfaith, DARSOL & PARSOL Fearless Groups, F.A.C., and SHINE. Her unwavering commitment to advocacy and support for marginalized communities propels her mission to create meaningful change in Iowa and across the United States.
