Many states criminalize communications between adults and children, even in the absence of an intent to arrange for a meeting in person, The alleged crime is thus committed at the keyboard.
A favorite tactic is to ensnare a target by an initial contanct where the person on the other side claims to be an adult, of the legal age of consent.
As the communications progress, the person on the other side fesses up an comes clean as e.g a 16 year old.
When the mark is led further by his nose into no-mans land, the person on the other side confesses that it only is e.g. 13 but looks mature for its age and only wants to run away from and abusive family situation.
The person on the other side usually turns out to be a middle aged federal agent, intending to put another federal feather in his cap.
Now – I think it is perfectly in order to set up LEA agents playing these cheap tricks on naive idiots and exterminate them by mortars, artillery, sniper fire and the llike.
