We specialize in constitutional litigation, particularly in areas affecting the individual rights and freedoms of people impacted by sexual offense registration laws.
Role Overview: As a staff attorney, you will play a pivotal role in our efforts to challenge sexual offense registration laws on constitutional grounds. Your work will directly contribute to shaping legal precedence and protecting fundamental rights. You will conduct legal research, draft pleadings and motions, and represent clients in court proceedings.
Responsibilities:
- Launch impact litigation as approved by the NARSOL legal committee;
- Collaborate with NARSOL’s legal committee on case strategy and development;
- Draft legal documents including complaints, motions, briefs, and appellate filings;
- Conduct legal research and analysis pertaining to constitutional claims against sexual offense registration laws;
- Prepare for and participate in hearings, trials, and appellate arguments;
- Maintain clear and organized case files and documentation.
Qualifications:
- A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school;
- Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (admission in multiple jurisdictions is a plus);
- Demonstrated interest and experience in constitutional law, civil rights, or criminal defense;
- Strong legal research and writing skills;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- A passion for the concepts of redemption and second chances.
